Join a committee and contribute to great nursing care

Are you interested in safe patient care?

You can make a difference by joining a CNO committee. It is one of the many ways nurses can contribute to regulatory processes that protect patients.

We are looking for RPNs, RNs and NPs to get involved in any of CNO’s five committees – Discipline; Fitness to Practise; Inquiries, Complaints and Reports; Quality Assurance and Registration.

Are you interested but aren’t sure you qualify?

Nurses acquire a range of skills and competencies during their nursing practice – you’ll be surprised how much your practice and life experiences may have prepared you for this role.

“You don’t need to have many years of nursing experience to participate in a committee,” says Sherri Simo, an RPN and a Panel Chair for the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee. “It’s good to have committee members with different levels of experience because they bring different viewpoints, which spark really great discussions that lead to the best decisions in the public interest."

Committee work is a commitment to serve the public.

Past and current committee members agree that participating in a committee is a significant public service responsibility that comes with great rewards. It is a commitment to do work that makes a difference.

“We take pride in protecting the public by ensuring, as best as we can, that nurses are competent and responsible enough to provide safe care to their patients,” says Kyle Nielsen, RN and a Panel Chair for the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee. “Committee work gave me an opportunity to actively participate in improving patient care beyond the reach I have within my own employ as a nurse. It is a privilege.”

Simo adds, “You will need your employer’s support because it is a time commitment and it may involve some travel but it is well worth it. You’ll work hard and you’ll love it!”
